About Plum Blossom Initiative
Plum Blossom Initiative (PBI) is a collaboration between Leah Kolb, Associate Curator at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and Jason S. Yi, a Milwaukee-based artist and Co-director of The Pitch Project. With the goal of providing opportunities for emerging artists to broaden the scope of their professional connections and experiences, PBI created Bridge Work as a forum to select and mentor a small number of artists each year, and work with them to develop and present a new body of work.
‘From Memory to Metaphor’, the second annual Bridge Work exhibition, continues PBI’s mission to generate the public exposure necessary for up-and-coming artists to successfully network and establish meaningful, professional connections within the region. This year, although the two artists employ different mediums, both engage with personal narrative as a means to express larger, more universal concerns – from Chambers’ loosely narrative drawings hinting at the complexities of Blackness in America, to Cozzi’s lyrical photographs that address our relationship to mortality and the trauma of loss.
On view at The Pitch Project through Sunday, November 12, ‘Bridge Work 02: From Memory to Metaphor’ will then travel to Madison, Wisconsin as part of a larger group exhibition that celebrates Bridge Work’s expansion to two additional Midwestern locations. In partnership with Chicken Tractor in Des Moines, Iowa and Darger HQ in Omaha, Nebraska, PBI will open this expanded exhibition, which includes work by Bridge Work artists from all three states, at the Art + Literature Laboratory from January 13 to January 28, 2017.
